RAPP presented the NAO robot at the Thessaloniki Science Festival
This very first edition of the science festival in Thessaloniki was open to the public and aimed at inviting all participants to explore science that is all around us, in our everyday lives. RAPP partners presented the RAPP concept as well as the NAO robot to hundreds of people that passed through their booth. As this event was not purely scientific, the main visitors category was parents with their children.
“All the children were intrigued by NAO, most of them started to manipulating it right away based on our instructions and a few were afraid even to touch it! Of course after we explained them that they should not be afraid and that the robot will not be ruined nor will it harm them, they started playing right away. We also presented the RAPP vision to the parents and they all agreed that Robotic Applications will boost the re-utilization of everyday consumer robots, specially regarding to the elders” says Manos Tsardoulias from the Informatics and Telematics Institute of the Centre for Research and Technology, Hellas (CERTH-ITI).
Robotics is generally well perceived in Europe and is entering more and more our everyday lives. The RAPP project will increase the versatility and utility of these robots thought the creation of an open source software platform to support the creation, hosting and delivery of robotic applications for social inclusion and thus promote the use of small home and service robots as life companions in household and healthcare centers.
