Pilot testing with NAO robot at New Moudania Seniors’ Center
The first tests of the Robotics applications (RApps) took place at the Seniors’ Center of New Moudania, Chalkidiki (Greece) during May. The members of the Technology class (run by Ormylia) volunteered to pilot test and evaluate the first applications of the RAPP project with NAO. A focus group of 6 seniors, between 63 and 78 years old, used NAO to send an email and play a cognitive game (Q&As game). The experience was revealing and exciting! Seniors seem to have established a familiarity with the robot and feel comfortable using it. They were ready to share their experience with the group and the evaluator (Ormylia’s psychologist) and to suggest to the programmers what they should add or improve! Their suggestions and remarks have been gathered and will help RAPP scientists to adjust and improve the RApps and move forward with the project.
Pilot tests were supervised and controlled by the Ormylia Foundation (Sofia Reppou & Konstantinos Panayiotou) with the valuable contribution of the robotic specialist of CERTH (Manos Tsardoulias).
